چکیده

The prevalence of coccidia infection among domestic rabbits in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was investigated for one year in the present study. Based on the morphological features of oocysts, ten species of Eimeria were identified in 100 fecal samples of domestic rabbits. The overall prevalence was 75%. Mixed infection with three different species occurred most frequently. The species detected and their prevalence values included the following: Eimeria coecicola (70%), E. magana (60%), E. perforans (60%) and E. media (55%) are mostly predominating and E. irresidua (30%) and E. flavescence (25%) were less common while E. intestinalis (7%), E. piriformis (6%), E. stiedai (5%) and E. exigua (5%) were relatively rare.

Hepatic Coccidiosis of the Domestic Rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus L. in Saudi Arabia

Four hundred and ninety domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus L.) were examined for hepatic coccidiosis using faeces and liver samples. Of the examined rabbits, 32.24 % were infected with the parasite Eimeria stiedae, the major causative agent of this disease. Various developmental stages of the parasite were observed in the liver and the bile duct. Numerous and scattered white nod...

Transgenic Eimeria magna Pérard, 1925 Displays Similar Parasitological Properties to the Wild-type Strain and Induces an Exogenous Protein-Specific Immune Response in Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus L.)

Rabbit coccidiosis causes great economic losses to world rabbitries. Little work has been done considering genetic manipulation on the etiological agents, rabbit Eimeria spp. In this study, we constructed a transgenic line of Eimeria magna (EmagER) expressing enhanced yellow fluorescent protein (EYFP) and red fluorescent protein (RFP) using regulatory sequences of Eimeria tenella and Toxoplasma...

Evaluation of the association of parasitism with mortality of wild European rabbits Oryctolagus cuniculus (L.) in southwestern Australia.

Abundances of the parasitic nematodes Trichostrongylus retortaeformis and Passalurus ambiguus, and 8 Eimeria species were estimated by fecal egg and oocyst output in 12 discrete free-ranging populations of wild rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in southwestern Australia. Comparisons of parasite egg and oocyst counts were made between those rabbits known to have survived at least 2 mo after fecal ...

Herbal formulations as feed additives in the course of rabbit subclinical coccidiosis.

Two simultaneous experiments were carried out in a breeding farm of New Zealand White rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus f. domesticus) to determine the feasibility of replacing coccidiostats with garlic and oregano preparation. The research took place during June and July, the period of the greatest threat of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria spp. (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae). In one investigation, 40 ra...
